Dr. Randy Larson
Dr. Randy Larson

Randy Larson, DVM was born and raised on a small livestock farm in west central Illinois where he participated in FFA and 4-H. His DVM was earned at the University of Illinois where he also participated in postgraduate studies while in practice. His mixed practice in Alpha, IL was primarily cattle and swine, but really was kind of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. He left practice after 30 years of getting butted, kicked, bitten and any other kind of abuse that animals can do. Nevertheless, he would do it again in a heartbeat. He continued to do vet work in the Illinois and Iowa Departments of Ag and began alpaca practice.

He developed an interest in alpacas after his 3 children left home and their 4-H projects ended. He has raised alpacas for 20 years and his interest in alpaca practice has continued on during his semiretirement years. He has developed a friendship with 2 Peruvian vets who have been a source of information plus a connection with native alpacas. He actively assists new farms, speaks to alpaca groups, and continues to practice on alpacas exclusively.

He has always been active in community work, organized vet medicine, and continues to serve on the Board of the Alpaca Research Foundation.

He looks forward to presenting to our group on current topics of interest. Please come with questions!
